Many of our middle school students had the opportunity for another series in the Career Connections Project recently. Jenna Baker, as Wenior Marketing Executive with ADM Rodelle Vanilla, discussed the processes needed to pollinate, harvest, dry, transport and prepare vanilla beans to hit our supermarket shelves. Learning about where our foods come from has been an intgral part of this project, and we are grateful for folks like Jenna to participate. Thank you to Mrs. Felz for coordinating this digital meeting our students were able to learn from.

Two of our Three Forks High School Big Sky Biz Sim teams won their industry in the Montana Council for Economic Education's (MCEE) semiannual challenge. Congratulations to Harper, Harper and Shayla (not pictured) as well as Fallon, Amaya (not pictured) and Geovana (not pictured) for their efforts and work toward success. Thanks, too, to MCEE and First Interstate Bank for their support and funding.
Big Sky Biz Sim is an in-class business simulation where students make all of the operating decisions for their business to produce, sell and distribute widgets. The decision inputs are then matched against other teams competing across Montana for the highest stock market price at the end of eight quarters, (weeks in the simulation).
With a generous partnership with First Interstate Bank, the software and game has been in schools in Montana since 2000 with over 32,800 students participating, formerly known as the High School Business Challenge. MCEE believes strongly in education through experiential learning. Students who participate learn teamwork, communication, flexibility, problem solving, critical thinking and grit... all skills that will serve students and their future employers. When students experience the ups and downs of their profitability based on their decisions, they not only are taught the fundamentals of managing a business, but when set in a competition, it lights the spark of entrepreneurship.
